— 01 Our story

A foundry that began before WW2.

In 1933, in a small Norwegian village, “Dovrepeisen” was established with a single conviction: that a cast iron fireplace, made well, should outlive its maker.

"A Dovre fireplace is not bought twice in a lifetime. It is bought once, and inherited."

  1. 1933

Norwegian beginnings DOVRE was founded in Norway as DOVRE Peisen (“DOVRE Fireplaces”). Cast iron components were supplied by the legendary Ulefos foundry, whose history dates back to 1657. The first collection comprised four fireplace models available in two heights, adorned with distinctive Norwegian motifs.

  2. 1958

A discovery that changed everything During a business trip to Norway, Leon Gehem, an employee of Eurochemic, encountered DOVRE fireplaces for the first time. Their build quality, durability and exceptional warmth made a lasting impression.

  3. 1964

DOVRE arrives in Belgium After moving to Belgium, Leon Gehem brought a DOVRE fireplace into his own home. He soon began commercial import, introducing the brand to a new market.

  4. 1972

A new chapter Leon Gehem devoted himself entirely to developing the DOVRE brand. He secured exclusive distribution rights for the Benelux countries and opened the first warehouses and assembly facilities.

  5. 1973

Growing interest in wood heating The oil crisis sparked surging interest in alternative heating. DOVRE sales grew rapidly and the brand gained recognition across European markets.

  6. 1976

Building the future The company headquarters moved to Weelde, Belgium, where offices, R&D, a showroom and assembly facilities were established.

  7. 1980

A Belgian company with a Norwegian soul The Norwegian company was acquired and DOVRE became a Belgian firm. Despite the change in ownership, the brand retained its Scandinavian roots, values and identity.

  8. 1981

Mastery in cast iron DOVRE opened its own foundry in Weelde, taking full control of production. Iconic models such as the 100, 300 and 342 were born in this period and remain symbols of the brand today.

  9. 2005

Development in Poland A production facility opened in Września to support the brand's growth on European markets and expand manufacturing capacity.

  10. 2021

New production organisation Activities not directly related to the foundry moved to Poland. Weelde remained the centre of cast iron expertise, while Września handles production and distribution of DOVRE appliances for European markets.

  11. Today

More than 90 years after the brand was founded, DOVRE remains true to its philosophy: to create cast iron stoves and fireplaces that combine durability, reliability and timeless design, delivering warmth for generations to come.

One foundry, one standard.

Quality You Can Trust

Every stage of our production process meets the highest standards of craftsmanship. For more than 90 years, DOVRE cast iron stoves and inserts have been recognized for their durability, efficiency, and reliability, earning the trust of customers around the world.

— 03 Cast iron excellence

Iron, chosen for its memory.

Cast iron, properly alloyed, has a property that no other heating material shares: it remembers heat. It absorbs the energy of a fire slowly, holds it through the night, and releases it long after the last ember has cooled. The room stays warm not because the fire is still burning, but because the iron is.

The DOVRE alloy is specified for two qualities first — thermal conductivity and resistance to thermal shock. A stove that heats unevenly cracks. A stove that cracks cannot be inherited. The recipe is unchanged since 1957.

Every stove is rated and stamped: Ecodesign 2022 compliant, EN16510 certified (2025), at least A+ energy class, particle emissions well below European thresholds. Performance and patience, in the same casting.

— 04 Sustainability

A heater worth keeping

Sustainability, for a stove maker, is not a marketing claim — it is a manufacturing decision.

The most carbon-efficient stove is the one that does not need to be replaced.

  • 70% Recycled Iron

    70% Recycled Iron

The majority of every new DOVRE casting is melted-down cast iron, recovered and re-poured.

  • Ecodesign 2022

    Ecodesign 2022

Every model certified to the European Ecodesign 2022 emissions standard, often well under the threshold.
