Behind every great brand lies a story. The story of DOVRE is, above all, one of a passion for cast iron, Scandinavian heritage and craftsmanship passed down from generation to generation. For more than 90 years, this philosophy has guided the development of all our products.
Beginnings in the heart of Norway The history of DOVRE began in 1933 in Norway – a country where harsh winters have always demanded reliable and efficient heating solutions. From the very beginning, the brand specialised in manufacturing cast iron stoves and fireplaces designed to withstand even the most demanding climatic conditions and provide long-lasting heat. The name DOVRE comes from the Dovrefjell mountain range, a symbol of strength, resilience and longevity. In Norwegian culture, the expression “Til Dovre faller” (“Until the Dovre Mountains fall”) represents permanence, loyalty and steadfastness. These values remain at the heart of the brand’s identity to this day.
The early years at the Ulefos foundry The first DOVRE appliances were made using components cast at the renowned Ulefos foundry, founded in 1657. It is one of the oldest continuously operating foundries in Europe and a true icon of the Scandinavian metallurgical industry. For centuries, Ulefos has preserved its exceptional cast iron craftsmanship, combining precision manufacturing with the highest level of technical expertise. It was upon this heritage that DOVRE built its reputation as a brand renowned for quality and durability.
From Norwegian tradition to the foundry in Weelde During the 1970s, DOVRE expanded rapidly, driven in part by the growing popularity of wood heating. To gain full control over production quality, the company built its own foundry in Weelde, Belgium. Since 1981, all the key stages of production have taken place there – from component design to cast iron production. Full control over the manufacturing process ensures consistently high quality and enables innovation while remaining faithful to the brand’s traditions.
More than 90 years of experience Today, DOVRE stoves and fireplaces are available in more than twenty countries. Behind every appliance lie more than nine decades of experience, an in-depth understanding of cast iron and a constant commitment to creating efficient and durable heating solutions. Although DOVRE has expanded its operations in Belgium and Poland, its soul remains deeply Norwegian. This harmonious combination of Scandinavian heritage, industrial know-how and innovation lies at the heart of the brand.
