The story of DOVRE: from the Norwegian mountains to the art of cast iron

Behind every great brand lies a story. DOVRE’s story is above all one of a passion for cast iron, Scandinavian heritage and expertise passed down through generations. For more than 90 years, this philosophy has guided everything we create. Born in the heart of Norway The story of DOVRE began in Norway in 1933, in a country where harsh winters have always demanded reliable and efficient heating solutions. From the very beginning, the brand dedicated itself to producing cast iron stoves and fireplaces designed to withstand the most demanding climatic conditions while providing long-lasting warmth. The name DOVRE originates from the Dovrefjell mountain range, a symbol of strength, resilience and longevity. In Norwegian culture, the expression “Til Dovre faller” (“Until the Dovre mountains fall”) evokes strength, loyalty and permanence. These values continue to define the brand’s identity today.

The first steps at the Ulefos foundry The first DOVRE appliances were made using cast components produced by the renowned Ulefos foundry, founded in 1657. A true benchmark in the Scandinavian metalworking industry, it is one of the oldest foundries still operating in Europe. For centuries, Ulefos has preserved unique expertise in cast iron production, combining traditional craftsmanship with technical excellence. It was on this heritage that DOVRE built its reputation for quality and durability.

From Norwegian tradition to the Weelde foundry During the 1970s, DOVRE experienced strong growth, driven in particular by renewed interest in wood heating. To gain full control over the quality of its production, the brand built its own foundry in Weelde, Belgium.

Since 1981, every essential stage of production has been carried out within the DOVRE foundry, from component design to cast iron moulding. This complete control over the process guarantees consistent quality and enables the brand to innovate while remaining faithful to its heritage.

More than 90 years of expertise Today, DOVRE stoves and fireplaces are distributed in more than twenty countries. Behind every appliance lie more than nine decades of experience, an in-depth knowledge of cast iron and a constant commitment to providing efficient and durable heating solutions. Although DOVRE has grown in Belgium, its soul remains deeply Norwegian. This balance of heritage, industrial expertise and innovation lies at the very heart of the brand.

A heritage that spans generations At DOVRE, cast iron is more than just a material: it is a heritage. Every stove and fireplace is designed to serve homes for many years, providing authentic warmth, timeless design and proven reliability. Since 1933, DOVRE has pursued the same ambition: to create appliances capable of lasting for generations while remaining faithful to the values that have built the brand’s reputation.
